At the invitation of the Federal Prosecutor of the Kingdom of Belgium, Mr. Frédéric VAN LEEUW, the delegation of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office led by the Republic Public Prosecutor, Ms. Zagorka Dolovac, stayed on a working visit to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Kingdom of Belgium in the period from 12 May 2014 to 15 May 2014.

During the visit to Belgium, the delegation of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office met with the representatives of the European Commission with whom a range of topics were discussed regarding Chapters 23 and 24, related to the judiciary, basic rights, justice, freedom and security.

In addition, several meetings were held for the purpose of improving international co-operation of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Kingdom of Belgium in the area of cybercrime and enforcement of requests for international legal assistance in current and future cases.

For the purpose of realising the established co-operation, a presentation was held at the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Kingdom of Belgium showing cases which may serve as examples of good practice with regard to cybercrime aiming to strengthen the co-operation of the prosecutor’s office in detecting and processing perpetrators of these criminal offences. Furthermore, a meeting was held where information was provided on the status of the requests that had been exchanged in an effort to strengthen the co-operation in this area.

This visit was a continuation of the close co-operation between the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Kingdom of Belgium, which has recognised in the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Serbia a reliable partner regarding criminal matters, and this co-operation is being implemented under the 2010 Agreement signed between the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Kingdom of Belgium through permanent exchange of information on respective legal systems and by sharing practical experiences through direct and indirect communication.
